    Lessons Learned

    • Be careful of poor communication. Share the rationale — fostering a culture of innovation — with faculty, and discuss the goals and details of the project with students and substitute teachers. Host an event for parents to try out this kind of experimentation and give them a voice.
    • Manage the fear of failure. Successful entrepreneurs are comfortable with failure. Create an environment in which your students are comfortable sharing ideas that haven’t gone quite as planned. Make sure students know that creativity and effort matter more than results.
