Keep mentorship institute sessions small. OCSB’s leadership coaching institute was so successful it quickly reached maximum capacity. “If sessions get too large, you start to lose people. You want to make sure attendees feel they’re developing a key network and connecting with the content,” says Steve McCabe, superintendent of leading and learning at OCSB. So, OCSB caps their learning institute sessions at 50 people.
Give new teachers extra attention. The first few years of teaching are formative, and learning to teach is tough. Ensure new teachers have extra support and someone to turn to when they struggle.
